Wednesdays are just the weirdest day for me. I don’t get up early for the gym, since my gym partner takes that day off. I like to catch up on sleep and do a workout on my Wii instead. My daughter goes to school at the regular time, but gets out an hour early. My son goes to school an hour late, but gets out at the regular time. This automatically squeezes 2 hours out of my day, plus the extra time I spend working out and getting a shower is another hour. Then to top it all off, every other Wednesday my mom calls, and that’s another hour. So I lose 4 hours of my day that way. It drives me nuts, but what I finally realized is that I can’t do much about it. So, instead of trying to cram in writing assignments or interviews, I try to schedule all my mundane administrative tasks for Wednesday and then I can concentrate on writing the rest of the week.
Only, here’s the deal. Since we got Posey, that’s all out the window anyway. Getting my workout with a puppy in the house is a challenge, to say the least. Oh sure, last week she lulled me into a false sense of security and slept on her pillow while I did my 20 minutes of Wii Step. I normally like to do 30, but I knew I’d be lucky to get in 20 since the week before had been such a disaster. Of course, last week I got my 20 minutes in and let her sleep on her pillow and closed the door while I ran up to take a shower, only to come down and discover she’d gotten up and had not one but two accidents in 10 minutes.
Come on, dog, give me a break, will ya?
So today, I noticed she seemed sleepy, and she usually sleeps for a while in the morning, so I figured I’d shoot for 30 minutes. It started out OK. I did have to pause it several times to let her in or out, get her toys situated, etc. But it was OK. For the most part, she laid on her pillow and slept or watched me, and played with her toys.
See?
I got through 26 minutes, with only about 12 interruptions. (Yeah, only. Because that’s way better than a couple weeks ago.) I knew she wanted to go out so I hit pause and let her into the backyard. She did what she needed to do and I let her back in. Go to resume my workout–only 4 minutes left! Yeah! I’m gonna do it this week! Woohoo!–and accidentally hit Quit instead of Continue.
Sonuvab****!
So frustrating. I didn’t want to start a new workout. I’ve got a lot to do and I needed to get my shower. But I figured 25 minutes was better than 20, and hopefully next week I’ll actually get through 30.
Posey’s been a great addition to our family. She’s very sweet and entertaining. I know this phase won’t last forever. When it’s warmer and she’s a little bigger, I’ll be able to just put her out in the yard and do my whole workout and not worry about her at all. And once she gets better with her leash, I’ll be able to take her for a walk and make that my workout. It just takes time. But for now, it’s a little frustrating.
On the plus side, after bouncing up 3.5 pounds over the weekend, my weight finally got back to where it had been last week when I reached a new low. (That was a good thing.) So, I’m happy about that. I’d like to drop another pound by the end of the week, and it feels doable. I took my measurements and they’re right where they were last week, which I guess is to be expected. But as I always say, as long as I’m not going up, I’m OK with that.
Now, my mom should be calling any minute so I guess I’d better get ready for that.

Wow, what a schedule, and training a puppy to boot! I get tired just reading about your Wednesday!
You are doing the best you can do. It gets frustrating, but at least the puppy thing won’t last forever. Is she being crated at all? If so, can she just go in her crate for that exercise time period? Or, if you take her outside right before you start, can she last the 30 min?
Yes, Gwen, she has a crate, but unfortunately it’s in the same room. If I put her in there and she watches me work out a few feet away, she’ll just whine until I let her out. We’re getting there, though. Of course, as soon as I got my shower and let her out of her crate, she plopped down and slept for an hour. Whatever! Wish I could do that.
