New PR

I am proud to say that I set my goal to get my treadmill 5K done in 45 minutes today and watched the display hit 3.1 miles at 44:55, a new personal record. After a disappointing and sluggish 46:00 last week, I was determined to push myself a little harder. I’ll admit that I had my doubts, but I made some adjustments – running for shorter intervals and walking at a faster pace – in order to get down to 45 minutes. Of course, I’m a horrible mathematician, so I have to figure out the numbers ahead of time and just stick with the plan. Doing math in my head while working out is not really my strength. I’m trying to keep pace so I can work my way down to the 39-minute range by the time the Spark Group does their 5K on June 8. That seems like a tall order right now, but I know if I can keep shaving 30 seconds off my time each week, I can do it.

This week was crazy for work. In fact, I had 2 interviews to do on Wednesday morning, so I had to skip my regular home workout that day. BUT, it was the first night/morning that Posey slept through the night, so I’m glad I didn’t get up early to work out. She has actually slept through the night 3 of the last 4 nights–after having her for 4 weeks–so at this point, I’ll take the sleep and be grateful. I can always find a way to move a little more during the day. Sleep? Not so much.

Next week should also be crazy, with 3 more interviews scheduled. Then I get to write all those ads, and follow up with the ones I’ve already written. Plus I have a dentist appointment. And I need to take my son to baseball practice 4 nights that week, and my husband has meetings 2 of those nights. Oh, and did I mention that my daughter’s birthday is next Saturday, and we are having her party on Friday night? Gonna be a little hectic. I know people don’t understand why I get up so early to hit the gym, but with weeks like this I am so glad that I already have that neatly planned into my schedule. Otherwise, I’m 100% sure I’d blow it off.

Besides sleeping through the night, Posey has made some progress this week. She had been resistant to her leash, but I knew if we just kept trying, she’d get better about it. She still has a long way to go, but I was able to take her for a walk a few times. There is a big grassy area in our subdivision just down the street from our house. She hates the sidewalk but once I drag her ass gently coax her to get over there, she loves being around all that grass. So that’s good for both of us. She learns leash and social skills and I get to log a few extra steps on my pedometer. Definitely a win-win.

So, there’s good news all around I guess. My goal for the next week is to keep doing what I’m doing:

  • Prepping fruits, veggies, and other healthy snacks on Sunday
  • Getting to the gym 4 days
  • Getting in my Wednesday workout at home
  • Bringing my treadmill 5K time down to 44:30

Since Saturday is my daughter’s birthday, I’m not quite sure yet when I’ll do my 5K. She’s having a sleepover, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get to the gym that morning. Depends on how many girls she has sleeping over, and how long Posey sleeps that night. Unfortunately, it may be a game time decision.

I would also like to get back to some flexibility exercises as I am feeling very stiff and sore lately and realize that element is missing from my fitness routine. A little yoga each day would really help, just need to make the time.

  • Congrats! That is awesome! I’m also glad Posey is making progress, too! :)

  • You are doing a great job! Gotta be flexible with a puppy, so similar to having a baby! :-)
