I’m giving you a different sort of post today. In addition to writing health & fitness articles for Examiner, homemaking articles for The Homemaking Cottage, editorial for Treasure Valley Family, advertising for Bay Area Parent, and other projects, I sometimes write other things like fiction and poetry. (What?) I can’t help it. Writing is my life. So I thought I’d change it up today, break away from my constant bitching and over-analyzing reflections on my personal fitness experiences and give you something else to read. I actually wrote it last year, so that’s why the date seems weird. Hope you enjoy it. If you read to the end, there are a few notes.
February
It’s nearly February 14th
My favorite day of the year
A time when I get lost in thought
Of memories so dear
Everywhere I look
There are cupids, hearts and flowers
But these things do not fulfill me
While I’m counting down the hours
It sets my heart a-twitter
And I get a secret smile
Knowing what awaits me
In just a little while
A break from the dreary winter
All things seem fresh and new
My passion overflows
Now confess, you feel it too
Times are tough and funds are low
And I yearn for some escape
But February 14th brings me hope
Of brighter, happier days
All troubles fade away
Everything’s right, it seems
I throw caution to the wind
And surrender to my dreams
A reunion with my one true love
One that’s long, long overdue
Everything I’ve waited for
Is finally coming true
Surely you must know by now
What changes blues to bliss
It’s that day each February
Like a savored lover’s kiss
But it’s not a box of chocolates
No trip to an exotic resort
No, it’s the words I long to hear all year:
Pitchers and catchers report
See, besides health and fitness, and writing, I do have a few other interests. And baseball is at the top of the list. Just ask my pal Sooze over at Babes Love Baseball. And if you even think you might like baseball but aren’t quite sure, do yourself a favor and go check out her site. I promise it’ll be worth your while. Great writing and analysis from a babe’s point of view.
And if you need a little more explanation of what makes this game so great, watch and listen:

Love baseball! I’d never seen that “Babes” website before, so thanks for sharing! Your baseball poem is wonderful, I’m going to share it with my hubby.
